Music – local, new and old

For me, with Summer comes some spare time to enjoy music. Whether it is local music, new music or old favourites.

The local music scene is thriving in Cape Breton, especially at the local establishment and new popular hangout since the loss of the infamous “Smooth Hermans”,  Bunkers/Governor’s. Check out their facebook page at:

For more local music events : check out  a great source, “What’s Goin On” http://www.whatsgoinon.ca/ (also a great site for all that goes on in Cape Breton)

A few of my personal local artist faves that you should check out if you get the chance are:

The new coffee shop in town, Wentwerth Perk also hosts great musical entertainment. Check out their facebook page and a schedule of performances:

For new music I constantly keep my eyes and ears open for a different sound or a fresh new vibe. A great place is for new music is Playlist.com http://www.playlist.com

They have a featured playlist “New sounds”, each week and it is always a great pleasure on Mondays to check out what’s included. You can also sign up and create your own playlists. Very fun!

Summertime is pool and beach time and my friends and I take these occasions to enjoy the music we have been listening to for years together. Several favourites include: R.Kelly- Home alone, Montell Jordan- This is how we do it, Hootie and the blowfish – I only want to be with you, Counting Crows- mr.Jones, ub40 – red red wine. So while you’re packing your sunscreen be sure to pack the iPod dock with a playlist filled with your fave tunes. It always ads some fun to your outing!

There is nothing better than a great local performance shared with friends, a newly purchased iTunes album put on my iPhone and taken out with me to enjoy, and a classic friend favourite playlist to take you through the summer months.
